T O P I C     R E V I E WGumbyI know this is thinking ahead just a little bit, but what will happen when the PSX2 comes out and they stop making PlayStation games? What will happen to Bleem!? The PSX2 has backwards compatibility, and it will eliminate loading times, which is something Bleem can't do, however, Bleem! enhances the graphics, i'm not sure if the PSX2 does this to any extent, however, my guess is no. The PSX2 will, for the time being, be more powerful than a high-end PC even, so there would be no point at the time making a Bleem! upgrade.{or if they did, i'd be a DOWNGRADE}. I, honestly, am worried about how much longer the PS can hold out. One thing is for certain, it AND Bleem! are starting to run out of time. The countdown to the PSX2 begins...------------------"I go away 5 minutes, come back, and find out everybody's an alien!" -Zeke from "The Faculty"C LiangWhy does the intro of the PS2 imply the end of bleem (though all programs, even this one will end eventually)? bleem does eliminate loading times by the way.EgzThe end of the Nintendo Entertainment System hasn't stopped people from working on emulators (in fact, it almost seemed to increase it). So bleem will continue just because they stop perducing that system. Also, I'm not exactly sure on the details, but the PSX2 won't have a terrific compatibility rate with PSX1 games. Bleem! can always be upgraded, but for a PSX2 to be upgraded to support more games would be a legistics nightmare.PJIt will do nothing for loading times. The PS2 will have the same loading times, same graphics, same memory cards. No enhancements at all. Plus so far it looks like *MANY* games will not be backwards compatible with it. Unlike with Bleem!, you can't just download a 1mb exe to add support for new PSX games to the PS2.Plus the PS2 will not be out here till just before Christmas. That means 9 more months of full fledged PSX sales in America.-PJ[This message has been edited by PJ (edited March 04, 2000).]GumbyBut, PJ, the list that was given to games that weren't compatible was actually brief, and they were Japanese games. Also, my loading times were reduced in bleem, but not rid of, except for a couple. Maybe I just need a more powerful CPU.------------------"I go away 5 minutes, come back, and find out everybody's an alien!" -Zeke from "The Faculty"Sonikku_aFrom what I understand the list wasnt 'the only 15 games that don't work' but rather 'we randomly tested 15 games and these were the result' and the reason they were japaneese games is that no US games were tested. Look for SCEA to test US PS1 games as the US launch approaches.------------------Sonikku_a"There is no spoon."PJGumby, from what I have read and heard so far, Bleem! out performes it period in PSX compatibility. There were a few articles on www.retrogames.com about it. Plus, the PS2 can't be exported at this time because of encryption on the memory cards and system.-PJGumbyOh, really? I guess Sony was hyping up a bunch of nothing then, eh? Saying the system is backwards-compatible when even Bleem! does a better job. Is that what you are saying? If that's the case, I will forget buying a PS2 until the price comes down. Or, are you just trying to advertise Bleem! to make it sound better? You probably are, but I won't blame you for it.------------------"I go away 5 minutes, come back, and find out everybody's an alien!" -Zeke from "The Faculty"Little-Zenall you guys:the JAPANESE PS2 has some problems playing some JAPANESE PSX games. Perhaps the american one will have similar problems, but since NO ONE has an american system, you can't say for sure.As for the loading time thing, I think that was a misconstrued rumor. It has a variable speed drive, and it MIGHT speed up load times simply because they'd be stupid not to, but hey- Bleem! does that. I get very little load time on my DVD drive. Not running out of time though. Sony's going to have more of a problem of people still buying PSX systems when they want to sell PS2s. And the PSX games will keep on coming, for quite some time I'd guess.------------------I *AM* the Little Zen Companion!
